Instagram Engagement Pipeline

The challenge.
A social media management agency handling 45 brand accounts needed competitive analysis data — tracking competitor post performance, hashtag trends, and engagement patterns. Instagram's API only exposes data for owned accounts, and manual tracking across hundreds of competitor profiles was unsustainable.
The approach.
Stealth Data Collection
Built a distributed scraping system using residential proxies with browser-like request patterns. Rotated user agents, maintained realistic session durations, and randomized request intervals to avoid Instagram's behavioral detection.
Multi-Entity Tracking
Configured tracking for 300+ competitor profiles, 150 branded hashtags, and 80 industry hashtags. Each entity tracked independently with configurable depth (last 50 posts, last 30 days, etc.).
Engagement Analytics Engine
Calculated engagement rates, posting cadence, best-performing content types (carousel vs. reel vs. static), optimal posting times, and hashtag effectiveness scores. Compared brand accounts against competitor benchmarks.
Automated Reporting
Generated weekly PDF reports per brand with competitive rankings, trending content formats, and actionable recommendations. Delivered via email with a Google Sheets appendix containing raw data for custom analysis.
